Hey Sugar (SM MANILA) : Underarm Wax experience

Hey Sugar SM Manila

Underarm Wax

After purchasing dresses that expose my underarms and a see-through cardigan, I realized it had been years since I had waxed. Eager to get a quick waxing session, I headed to my favorite salon in SM Manila which I won't name, only to discover they were currently only accepting appointments and not walk-ins. This was disappointing, especially since I had plans to travel to Baguio the next day.

We decided to explore other waxing salons, and I recalled a place I had wanted to visit before, Hey Sugar, to take advantage of their promotions. However, at that moment, my main focus was on getting an underarm waxing treatment. Considering that the prices had increased from my previous visits, I opted for cold underarm waxing at 250 pesos, as opposed to the hot underarm waxing option, which was priced at 345 pesos.

I was assisted by Jhane, and she guided me through the differences between cold and hot underarm waxing, allowing me to experience both methods. Jhane was really nice to talk to as we shared personal stories while doing my session with her. Curious about Brazilian waxing, I asked Jhane about the potential pain involved. She explained that the level of discomfort would depend on my choice but recommended hot wax, highlighting its minimal pain compared to cold wax

As our session neared its end, Jhane informed me that hot wax might contribute to lightening my underarms by exfoliating the skin. I asked some recommendations and she suggested to do this:

Combine sugar and calamansi together, rub the mixture, and let it sit for 3-5 minutes. Repeat this process twice a week. I tipped her 50 pesos, so in total, the underarm waxing session cost me 300 pesos. Despite the cost, the overall experience was good. Having tried both methods simultaneously, I can confidently recommend hot wax to others.

Since our blog focuses on underarm waxing, here are some frequently asked questions:

"Which is better? Cold or Hot Wax?"

Choosing between cold and hot wax largely depends on personal preference and skin sensitivity. While I'm not an expert, I've gathered insights from my own experiences over the years.

Hot Wax:

  • More effective, resulting in smoother and longer-lasting results compared to cold wax.
  • Generally less painful.
  • Often recommended by most salons.
  • Preferred for sensitive areas.

Cold Wax:

  • Convenient as it doesn't require heating; can be applied directly to the skin.
  • Portable, with many cold wax strips available for easy use.
  • Recommended for larger body areas like legs.

There's no definitive "better" choice between the two, as it depends on factors such as pain tolerance, preference, and skin sensitivity. If you're unsure, seeking assistance from a professional is always advisable.

In conclusion, my visit to Hey Sugar in SM Manila turned out to be a positive experience despite the initial setback at my preferred salon. Jhane's guidance, along with the chance to compare cold and hot waxing, provided valuable insights. The cost, while higher than before, was justified by the quality of service. I appreciate Jhane's helpful tips, and having tried both methods, I can confidently recommend hot waxing, especially for those seeking a smoother and less painful experience. Remember, whether you prefer cold or hot wax ultimately depends on your personal preferences and skin sensitivity. If in doubt, seeking advice from a professional is always a wise choice. P.S. I will try Jhane's tip and put it on the next blog!
